Losing Probability on European Roulette

European roulette has 37 pockets and one zero. An even-money bet wins on 18 pockets and loses on 19 (the 18 opposite numbers plus the zero), so the loss probability on any single spin is 19/37, about 51.35%. The house edge of 2.70% comes entirely from that extra zero.

Losing Probability on American Roulette

A 0.13% chance per starting point sounds tiny, but across hundreds of spins in a long session the probability that such a streak appears at least once becomes substantial. That is precisely the depth at which the progression exceeds your maximum survivable steps, and it is the mechanism behind the risk of ruin.

Why a Losing Streak Does Not Make a Win Due

After five reds, black is not more likely on the next spin. The wheel has no memory, and each spin is an independent event.
