What Inside Bets Are
Inside bets are placed on individual numbers or small groups within the number grid: straight-up (one number), split (two), street (three), corner (four) and six-line (six). They pay much more than outside bets but hit far less often.
Why Classic Martingale Assumes 1:1 Payouts
Doubling works because a single 1:1 win returns your stake plus an equal amount, exactly recovering everything wagered so far. That clean recovery is why classic Martingale is written around even-money bets. Change the payout and the doubling multiplier no longer matches the loss.
Straight-Up Bet Recovery Problem
A straight-up number pays 35:1 but wins only about 1 in 37 spins on a European wheel. Long dry runs of 20, 30 or more spins are routine, so a doubling progression would explode into astronomical stakes long before a win arrives. The recovery, when it comes, is large, but the exposure needed to survive to that point is unrealistic.
Split, Street, Corner and Six-Line Bets
These pay 17:1, 11:1, 8:1 and 5:1 respectively and win more often than a straight-up. Any progression on them would need a smaller-than-double multiplier tuned to the payout, which is no longer classic Martingale. The higher the payout, the deeper and rarer the winning event, and the more fragile any progression becomes.
Dozens and Columns as a Middle Case
Dozens and columns pay 2:1 and sit between inside and even-money bets. A progression on them requires roughly tripling rather than doubling to recover, which grows even faster than standard Martingale and hits bankroll and table limits sooner. They are a middle case, not a solution.
Why Payout Size Changes Progression Math

Practical Warning
In practice, running Martingale on inside bets combines rare wins with rapid stake growth, which is the worst possible mix for bankroll and table limits. It reaches failure far sooner than the even-money version and does nothing to change the house edge.
